Application Requirements
International Students
- 【 International Students 】
Single Room / Family Room -
University Students who are enrolled in Junior College Program, Graduate School Masters’ Program, Doctorate Program or specialized courses at a specialty/vocational institution in the Yokohama city and have a “college student” visa(including those expected to enroll in April, 2026).
※Those who do not meet the requirements: Auditor students, research students, pre-college students, Short-term international student and students engaged in specialized research courses
※ Those who can live with the international student in a family room include: spouse and children with “dependent,” or “college student,” visas.
※If we are unable to confirm that your family is using the family room, you will be asked to leave (if the room is being used differently from what was applied for, such as for personal use). - 【 Resident Assistant (RA)】
Single Room -
Japanese University students or University Students having permanent resident visa in Japan, who are enrolled in Junior College Program, Graduate School Masters’ Program, Doctorate Program or specialized courses at a specialty/vocational school in the Yokohama city.
※ Those who do not meet the requirements: Auditor students, research students, pre-college students and students engaged in specialized research courses.
《 Role of RA 》
・Actively participate and cooperate in events held at the Yokohama International Student House.
・Support exchange activities of international students.
・Bridging International students so that they can make new friends in the YISH.
・Explain about Japanese customs/culture and try to solve misunderstandings that may arise from daily life activities.
・Cooperate with the operation of YISH.

From 4th to 28th Jan, 2026 within 5:00 PM
※Must be arrived by this date by post or bring yourself.
Basically, Universities and institutes will collect their students’ applications and send it to us together. Please submit through your universities and institutes. The deadline may be earlier depending on the individual Universities and institutes. Please check the deadline of your universities and institutes.

Please correctly fill out the forms accurately according to the sample form “How to fill the Application Documents.” Arrange the documents no. ③ to ⑦ in following order, and staple it in the upper left-hand side of the page.

- Recommendation letter
- A person makes reference is designated as a president or a dean of the department of University, or two year college, and a principal of vocational school.
- Copy of Residence Card and Student ID Card (for applicants & Family members)
- Questionnaire Regarding Culture Exchange Activities and Agreement
- Copy of Notification of Acceptance Letter from a University or Institute (only for applicants who have been accepted and are expected to enroll the university or institute in April 2026)

Interview Date (Only for RA)
Only applicants for RA will have attend interview before deciding the acceptance of residents.
Notification of Results for Acceptance of Residents
Residents are decided by the “Yokohama International Student House Resident Acceptance Committee.” The results will be announced on the website by registration number around 5pm on February 5th, 2026. Subsequent procedures will be notified by email that you mention in application form. We will also send the results to the respective Universities or institutes too.
Deadline for Reply
13th February
You should reply that you will live in our house or not by 13th Feb. No reply means cancel.
Contract and Guidance for New Residents
We will inform you one of the following days.

27th February 9:30~12:00
09th March 9:30~12:00
Move-in Period
1st April, 2026.
You can move-in from this day, but after asking the desirable date we will appoint the specific day and time of your move in.
Residency Period
The period of stay is from April 1, 2026 to March 26, 2027.
Residents who meet the qualifications for residency may have their stay extended for another year.
※However, the move-out deadline may be changed depending on cleaning and building maintenance.
Orientation
11th April (Saturday) 13:00~14:30
※ Welcome Party is also 11th April (Saturday) 15:00~ (not fixed yet)
